Lessons From Our Mothers

In honor of Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, I asked a few of my favorite bloggers and designers to share the best lessons they’ve learned from their mothers. Their answers were so enlightening, and I definitely got choked up over one or two. But, of course, I have to start by sharing a little about my own mom.

Emily Ley may have coined the phrase, “I will hold myself to a standard of grace, not perfection,” but my mom embodies this saying every. single. day. She makes the best out of any situation; even as she was diagnosed with cancer last year, her faith and her positive attitude never wavered. She took it gracefully in stride, just like she does everything else, and she came out on the other side of it. I live in constant admiration of her courage and her strength.

Bedtime Beauty Routine

I’ve always loved playing around with makeup and beauty products. That’s why I love subscription services. I tried Birchbox for a while, and to be honest, it wasn’t for me. Given, this was several years ago and things may have changed, but I was never too excited about the products that came my way. So a couple of years ago I decided to give the Ipsy glam bag a try, which was said to have more makeup and nail color products. Since making the switch, I’ve absolutely loved my monthly subscription! (Bonus: each month’s products come in a cute little pouch, which always come in handy to keep things organized in my purse, travel bag, and makeup drawer.)

After cleaning out my overcrowded makeup drawer last week, I decided to start a new bedtime routine with some favorite products. In just a week, I can tell a huge difference in my skin…it has more of a glow to it, instead of looking red, ruddy, or both.

6 Tips For Entertaining At Home

I’ve always loved entertaining. One of the reasons I fell in love with our house was that it has great bones for large parties. There are no real hallways in our American Foursquare…just large rooms that are all connected. Since moving into the house, I’ve hosted quite a few shindigs, from baby showers to girls’ nights to birthday parties and more, and I’ve learned a few things.

Hosting an event is fun, but it’s also a lot of work. Forget having to take care of food, decorations, invitations, etc…you also have so make sure your house is spick and span! Luckily, I generally have help from a few friends and the hubs, which makes things much easier!
