Interior Design Question: A Rug For a Colorful Dining Room

In a lot of ways, Charles and I have followed in his parents’ footsteps. Back before Charles was even born, my in-laws bought a severely neglected historic house (just a few blocks from ours) and spent about 2 years restoring it. It’s the only home that Charles has ever known, and it’s beautiful inside and out.

My mother-in-law, Rhonda, has great taste, and the house is always decorated for each and every holiday and season. One of my favorite rooms in this 1922 house is the dining room…it’s right off the foyer, with double doors, built in china cabinets, and a stunning chandelier. But most of all, this room is an example of patterned wallpaper done right!

Did you check out the designers yesterday? I seriously cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with. It always blows my mind how much talent there is in the group. I’m especially excited to see Christine’s bedroom (her rooms are always so chic and edgy) and Naomi’s condo (her kitchen makeover was one of my most favorites ever). Whose space are you most excited about?

Interior Design Trend: Sputnik Pendants

Throughout our house, we’ve tried to bring a little modern and a lot of traditional together. It was important to us in our renovation to maintain the historical integrity of our house, but also not have it look as though an 80-year-old couple was living here.

Lately I’ve been obsessing over sputnik pendant lights. These are modeled after the 1950s Russian satellite, and are becoming more and more popular in a wide variety of home styles. They seem to add a dash of modern glam without taking away from an otherwise traditional space.

A Sitting Room For a Growing Family

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some exciting news a few weeks ago…I’m going to be an aunt!! My brother and sis-in-law are having a little one in February and I am soooo thrilled!! I can’t wait to spoil the heck out of that child!

Jason and Liz rent a cute ranch on a farm in central NC. A couple weeks ago, Liz asked if I could help come up with some ideas before the baby comes for a little area of their house that has never really been defined. The room measures 11.5 x 15 feet and is located just as you walk into the house from the carport. There is a bathroom/laundry room off the back of this room, and a small window through to the eat-in kitchen on the left.
