Last Friday was the start of my 27th week, which means my second trimester is just about over! This pregnancy has seriously flown by. I can’t believe that in less than 3 months we’ll be meeting our sweet Charlie!
It still kind of weirds me out that I’m going to be a mom. Most of my friends are already moms and make it look so natural. But in my mind I still have this feeling like I’m not old enough to be a mom. Like I’m not really an adult. Is that just me or does every pregnant lady experience that?
Anyway, today I thought I’d share a little bit about how everything is going.
By the way, the above photo was taken on my 30th birthday during our trip to Boston. This brownie, which was so big it took me 3 days to finish, was a very close second to birthday champagne!
How are you feeling?
Actually, I’ve been feeling pretty great. I guess it’s true what they say about the second trimester being the best. I have the typical aches and pains, but I have a lot more energy and am sleeping well, so no real complaints.
I’m not gonna lie…weeks 6 through 16 were pretty rough. For about 6 weeks straight I threw up 7-8 times a day, and then even after that I was constantly nauseous. I lost 15 pounds during my first trimester and, even at 27 weeks, I’m still not back up to my pre-pregnancy weight. But no worries…Charlie is growing right on track and seems to be perfectly healthy!
Any cravings or aversions?
Not really. For a while, especially in my first trimester, I had a real aversion to chicken. Any kind of chicken. And vegetables. I hear that’s pretty common. But I seem to have gotten over that. I want sweets (like cinnamon rolls, pie, and cookies) all the time, but I’ve always had a sweet tooth so that doesn’t seem so odd.
Favorite places to shop for maternity clothes?
Old Navy has been my go-to for the basics. I stocked up on this shirt, this shirt, and this tank in lots of colors. I’ve also been a fan of Pink Blush Maternity and these pants from Motherhood Maternity.
What’s your plan for after the baby is born?
Good question! Not knowing what life is going to be like after Charlie gets here is a major source of stress that I’m trying to not focus on too much. I know I can’t control everything, so worrying won’t help. Right now, if everything goes well during the birth, I plan to take 3 weeks off completely. I know what you’re thinking…only 3 weeks?! That girl is cray. But after that I plan to introduce work back into my schedule slowly, as in 1-1.5 days per week max for a few weeks. Luckily I’ve got a very supportive husband who is willing to help out with my business, a mom and mother-in-law who will be here to help with the baby, and a great daycare lined up. I’m sure about one thing…we’ll make it work!
Do you feel prepared for baby’s arrival?
Not a bit. I’m glad it takes 9 months to grow one of these things! The nursery seems to be at somewhat of a stalemate until the custom closet is installed. That’s happening next Monday, so my hope is that I can zoom through the rest after that. We’ve still got plenty on our to-do list, but I’m sure we’ll get it all done.
As far as being mentally prepared, I don’t think that’s really possible when you’re pregnant with your first child. I’ve read a couple of books (I highly recommend this one!) and we’ll be taking our childbirth classes in January, but I don’t think anything can prepare us for what’s coming!
What has been your favorite part about pregnancy?
Honestly, and I know this is kind of weird, pregnancy has been a confidence booster for me. I actually feel prettier…my skin, hair, and nails look great thanks to all the hormones and vitamins. I love sporting my baby bump, and have definitely noticed that everyone is way nicer to you when you’re pregnant!
What has been your least favorite part about pregnancy?
Well the nausea early on wasn’t great, but I think the worst part has been the constant aches and pains. All over. I didn’t expect back pain to come so early, and if you’ve never heard of lightning crotch, believe me…it’s a very real thing. TMI? Probably. But overall, I’m just thankful that I’ve had a mostly happy, healthy pregnancy!
Thanks for letting me share this journey with you!!
So very excited for you sweet Sarah and please, continue the honest assessments. Not ALL of your BFFs are Moms :)
