One Room Challenge – Fall 2015 – Week 3

Welcome back to the One Room Challenge! In this challenge, 20 designers makeover a space from start to finish in just 6 short weeks. You can catch those designers each Wednesday, and the rest of us will be linking up on Thursdays.

In case you missed it, I’ll be giving my new home office a drab to fab makeover. You can learn more about me and my plans for the office in Week 1 and Week 2.

But before we get to the progress, let me tell you a quick story about the one who got away. It’s heartbreaking.

I found the perfect table for our foyer at my favorite vintage shop in Greensboro on Monday. It was the perfect size (I keep a tape measure in my purse for such occasions), and I loved that it was slightly oval. The next day I went back to get it and, you guessed it, it was gone!

The struggle is real y’all. I was so bummed. Lesson learned: never think rationally and check your bank account…just buy the perfect table. Duh.

Ok, back to the office…

I bought a desk. I had planned to build-a-desk from Ikea, but after looking them over, I really just loved this one. I spent no less than 45 minutes in the desk section at Ikea, trying out every one. Yeah, I was that girl. And I’m not even embarrassed.

I especially love this desk because it has a compartment to hide cords and cables. That might sound silly, but I have a really healthy hatred of visible cords, so it’s a pretty necessary feature.

Anyway, here’s the layout plan for the room.

  1. I first visited during the ORC of your porch which I loved. This project looks exciting and I like the plan. I just wonder if the file cabinets are in the wrong spot. I think a lovely large plant in that corner would be just right. Did you consider moving the cabinets to the bookcase wall so it isn’t seen right when you walk in? It’s a small thing but the lovely fireplace could then take center stage. Hope you are not offended by this comment. Love the desk too.
