Instead of the usual Quotable Friday post, I wanted to share with you a new challenge that I’m really excited to be a part of. I’ve been reading the Earnest Home blog daily for years, so when Erin announced this challenge, I was eager to jump on board.
Let me use Erin’s words to explain…
Every time I start to see myself losing sight of the giant scale of opportunity that’s out there, I decide to tackle a little piece of it. Teach myself something new, meet some new people in the process, and keep my mind learning about all of the amazing things that exist outside of my backyard. I think it’s essential to maintain an open mind and to see other perspectives that can so easily be lost when we get too comfortable with the status quo…I feel like that push we give ourselves to discover new things and grasp a new skill not only keeps our minds alive, but helps us to flourish.

Monday, July 6th – We’re 3 weeks in! Share your progress.
Monday, July 27th – Halfway there! Share a little more progress.
Monday, August 17th – Things are getting good.
Monday, September 7th – Finito! Share how far you’ve come.
I like this challenge because it’s just enough. Posting every week on this would get tough, but every few weeks is manageable.
So what’s the skill I’m planning to hone in on this summer? PHOTOGRAPHY! I received a pretty awesome DSLR as a gift a few years ago (thanks Dad!), but I’ve never really taken the time to learn all the settings. I know that natural light is best, and I know when to use the macro setting and when to turn the flash off, but that’s about the extent of it. My dad even gave me his old lighting kit (similar here), so now I really don’t have any more excuses.
I’ve already signed up for a local photography workshop in July that I’m super excited about. In addition, here are a few resources I plan to study up on:
