I know I say this every month, but when did my baby get so big?! Charlie turned 6 months old on Wednesday and for the life of me I can’ figure out where the time went. He’s half a year old! A friend asked me the other day if I had started planning his first birthday party yet. I am so not ready for that.
Charlie goes to daycare most days and loves it there. I’m so thankful we have a place where I know he is not only cared for, but loved on every day.
Growth
Charlie hasn’t been to the doctor in a couple of months, but he seems to be right on track. I’m guessing he’s around 16 or 17 pounds now. He’s still long and lean, but he’s moved up to size 2 diapers and I don’t think we have to worry about his weight anymore.
Feeding
This boy loves to eat. He’s still nursing several times a day, but we’ve added in lots of solids. For the most part he’s done really well. He doesn’t like greens all that much…I guess he takes after his mama. But we keep trying because I’m determined not to have a picky eater! He loves all the fruits he’s tried, and if I had to pick a favorite, I’d say pears and the apple/blueberry combo are his favorites. I’ve been making most of his foods, which I’ve found is actually really simple and saves us a lot of money.
Sleeping
Last week we pushed Charlie’s schedule up a bit according to Moms on Call. So now he eats and goes to bed at 7 p.m., and he usually sleeps until about 6:30 a.m. Before, he was going to bed at 8 p.m., so having that extra hour in the evenings has really brought back a sense of normalcy for Charles and me. Thanks to Moms on Call, our boy is a great sleeper! He goes right down after he eats at 7 and sleeps allĀ night.
Development
Charlie’s “witching hour” has gotten a lot better. He doesn’t get nearly as cranky in the evenings as he used to. He’s rolling a lot these days, and will scoot or roll to get something he wants. He’s not sitting up on his own yet, but definitely getting close. Charlie has started teething a lot more, and I think by the feel of his gums he’s going to have a couple of teeth poking through soon. He still loves to stand and babble, and I’ve gotten a few giggles out of him just this week. He’s also started doing this thing where he likes to put his hands on your face and it melts my heart every time.
Favorites
We are blessed with a self-entertainer. Charlie loves his thumb, fingers, and feet. In the mornings, he will coo and self-soothe in his crib for 15-20 minutes before I have to go get him, which is really nice. He loves to be outside, so I’m really looking forward to cooler days hopefully coming soon. We got him an exersaucer that he’s really enjoying, and of course he still loves bath time and reading books. When Charlie’s upset, singing to him will almost always calm him down. We start Kindermusik in a couple weeks and I think he’s going to love it!
