Dream Pool Must Haves

I’m not a fan of summer. There, I said it. I’m incredibly hot natured and summers in the south are sweltering. But more and more each summer, I find myself wishing we had a pool.

A pool is definitely on our list of to-do’s. But we have several big ticket items ahead of it, including doing a major kitchen renovation, laying a patio, renovating our garage, and enclosing our attic. I have a feeling a pool may be an empty-nester project at this rate!

But anyway, a girl can dream. So here’s my short list for a dream pool.

1. Saltwater

There are lots of pros to saltwater pools over traditional chlorine. First, they require less maintenance. With less chemicals, saltwater pools are more natural and therefore better for your health. The water tends to be softer than water in chlorine pools, and gentler on sensitive skin.

2. Rectangular

It’s totally personal preference, but I love the sleek look of a rectangular pool versus a lagoon style. Maybe it’s my Type A brain talking, but the right angles just really do it for me.

3. Grass Not Concrete

Again with the sleek and sophisticated look. I like that this style doesn’t make your entire backyard look like a concrete slab. Plus, with little ones running around, grass seems a lot friendlier and easier on knees when a toddler inevitably takes a spill.

4. No Extras

Diving boards and water slides are superfluous in my dream pool. Keep it simple.

  1. I’m with you on the grass around the pool. Love it for the looks. But having had it as a kid growing up it’s a pain in the butt to keep the water clean. Might be worth it. :)

Get the pool first. All the other can wait. You’ll never regret the hours and hours of fun it will be. It’s one of the highlights of my childhood having one 6 feet from my bedroom door. It’s also cheap babysitting. We knew how to swim and it kept us entertained for hours and hours spring-fall.

  2. We just recently bought a used above ground pool. So not fancy but I dresses it up a bit with Pinterest. I thought I’d be in that thing everyday but I find it exhausting to get in with my 4 year old. He can touch in it and has arm floaties on but I have to clean it out every time we get in and then trying to get him out, dried off, and showered plus all of those wet clothes and towels annoys me! Oh and how muddy and dirty out feet get on the way back to the house. Haha I guess that’s why people have pool houses!

  3. I do agree that we should just make it simple. For me, it would be more relaxing to see less in the surroundings. But I would make an exception for a mini table :) Anyways, thanks for these inspirations. Love it!

  4. My parents really want to get a pool soon. So, I liked that you pointed out that having grass around the pool would be nice. That does seem like it would be helpful especially if want to prevent slips around the pool.

  5. Totally agree with you about the fact that, salt water pool is more healthy than chlorine water. We’ve an above ground pool and we try to keep it clean on a regular basis.

  6. I find it interesting that you suggested present and future pool owners to surround one with grass in order to cushion anyone in case they fall. With that, I was thinking of having a contractor install this and repair any problems with my pool at home. Their work can help add more value to my home while making it safer for all swimmers.

  7. You are absolutely right , according to me maintenance is a big challenge. But we use a robotic pool vacuum, a great device that every pool owner should have.

  8. Different Peoples have different thinking and their own desires. We cannot put on someone our perceptions.

I like the though of green around the pool which gives us the natural feel. Thanks for the idea, i loved it.

  9. I like your suggestion to lessen the concrete around the pool and replace it with grass for a more sophisticated look. My uncle is thinking about putting a pool into his backyard but is wanting something that looks natural and doesn’t stick out. I’ll pass along this suggestion to him!

  10. Sometimes, in order to have a home that offers gorgeous views and landscapes, building must be done on the side of a mountain or hill. This makes maintaining the landscape and lawn difficult for homeowners. However, it can be done with the use of retaining wall blocks. These blocks make it possible to level out these lawns, thereby making them necessary and useful. By choosing this method the results will be a gorgeous lawn that is perfectly level. Retaining walls also eliminate the worry of possible yard erosion and foundation damage to the home.

  11. Because pools are such an expensive proposition, it’s important to give a lot of time to design. You’ll only build it once, and therefore your choices of materials and detailing should be high quality and timeless so your pool design won’t go out of style in the near future. Beware of fads. Question new materials before you invest. The rigors of weather and chemically treated water may have far reaching consequences for newer materials that have not stood the test of time and use.

  12. I highly agree to have concrete slabs can make backyards look chic and sophisticated. However, if there is a pool, that can be completely dangerous. My wife and I are planning to convert a portion of our backyard into a lounge area with a pool. It would be nice if a professional on pool enclosure financing can have a few words with us.

  13. I like the perks mentioned, in having a saltwater pool. My wife and I are newlyweds and this seems like a perfect idea for a low budget pool. We would like a Pool Remodeling Contractor to help us out with this project for us to start.
