Who would have thought that Jewel could offer so much insight?! The first time I heard this song I was in the Chapel of Transfiguration in Moose, WY and it brought tears to my eyes. Yesterday, I just happened to reach for a random mixed CD from high school when I was in the car and had no phone signal, and this song came on. And again, it brought tears to my eyes.
It seems that the racial tensions that have plagued our country have come to my home state, and it makes my heart hurt. Once again, a black man’s name has been reduced to a hashtag. And Brangelina’s breakup is the top headline. Something has to change.

Wasn’t it a black officer who shot a black man? It is a tragedy if the man was innocent but the investigation is not complete yet. I find it all so tragic that we label these incidents as “racial” without knowing all the facts. I personally am thankful that the majority of police and other emergency personnel are willing to put their lives on the line every day to help all who call on them. Those who are bad need to be weeded out but I don’t think these situations are all racially motivated.
In light of this post, I know this sounds trivial but I just found your blog and am enjoying your “project”.
