A couple of weeks ago, after the craziness of the holidays was over, some friends and I threw a baby shower for our sweet friend, Meredith, and baby Dean due in a few weeks. Meredith is a teacher, so we figured there was no better theme than a storybook shower (with a hint of Christmas)!
I can’t say that this was an original idea (thanks, Pinterest!), but it came together beautifully. In fact, this group didn’t even have to meet to pull it off…we’ve all become baby shower pros! Take a look.
We used this invitation, which was super cute! And here’s the food we did to correspond with different children’s books:
The Stinky Cheese Man – cheese ball and crackers
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie – cookies
Green Eggs & Ham – deviled eggs with country ham
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs – meatballs
Where the Wild Things Are – raw veggies & dip
Goodnight Moon – homemade moon pies
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – fruit caterpillar
We decorated simply with stacks of books, flowers, and some vintage letter cards hung on the dining room mantel. With all the mommies in the host group, we had no shortage of books!
And nothing says storybook baby shower like a Christmas tree, right? Well, not really. But when you host a baby shower on January 3rd, it just comes with the territory. I did decide to move the tree from the center of the foyer to the side so that there was more room, and I replaced some of my fake packages with teddy bears and stuffed animals to make it fit a little better. I don’t think anyone minded!
We had a wonderful afternoon filled with great friends and lots of fun. Instead of cards, we asked each person to bring a book for Baby Dean. He’s not even here yet and he already has quite the library!
We even had a few littles tag along, including Meredith’s niece, and they were adorable. Meredith is going to be a great mom!!
