Kitchen Trend: Waterfall Islands

I’ve been seeing more and more waterfall kitchen islands lately and I have to say, I’m a fan. I used to think that this style only worked in sleek, modern spaces, which felt a little cold to me. Modern is definitely not my cup of tea. But the more I see, the more I realize that this trend can really fit into just about any style of kitchen.

I love how a waterfall island can mix contemporary and traditional elements seamlessly (pardon the pun) to give a kitchen a timeless appeal. When you extend a countertop to the floor, it instantly looks more expensive and high-end.

It will be several years before we makeover our kitchen, but I’m always looking for new ideas. In a way, I’m kind of happy that we didn’t have the budget to renovate our kitchen up front…it has allowed us to live with it and decide which elements are must-haves for us, and which we can do without.

It also gives us a chance to see which trends can stand the test of time. Do you think this one will?

What do you think? Do you like the waterfall trend? What’s your favorite kitchen trend currently?
