Several weeks ago, we traveled to one of my favorite cities, Charleston. I was there for the Southern Blog Society conference, and Charles tagged along so that we could extend our stay and make an anniversary trip out of it. It was the perfect summer getaway!
We stayed at Fulton Lane Inn right off King Street. I can’t say enough good things about this place! First of all, it was adorable, quietly tucked away in the heart of downtown Charleston. I was worried that it may be a little noisy at night being on King Street, but because it’s mostly retailers on that strip, we didn’t have any problems at all.
Honestly, we felt that this quaint little inn was too good to be true, and we were constantly expecting something to go wrong. But it never did. The 24 hour concierge service was so helpful, and included in the price was breakfast served daily right to our room. We also had the option of attending the wine and cheese hour each afternoon at the King’s Courtyard Inn next door.
We also had many delicious meals in and around Charleston. Here are the highlights…
First up is The Ordinary on King Street. I’m an oyster lover and have had many oysters in my life, but none as delicious as the smoked oysters at The Ordinary.
My favorite thing on the menu was the smoked oysters with saltines, coriander sauce, and hot sauce (all house made). So many flavors that all blended perfectly together.
One evening, we ventured over to Sullivan’s Island to try out The Obstinate Daughter. This place was absolutely worth the trip!
I had The Old Danger pizza, and it was hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. That’s right. Best. Ever. And the dessert, a blueberry lemon cobbler with buttermilk ice cream, was out of this world.
On our last night in the Holy City we headed to Husk on Queen Street.
We absolutely loved this setting. The Husk bar, in a separate building, was so cool, and we loved sipping out on the porch of “the big house.” In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to wait a little longer for a table on the upstairs porch.
We didn’t get to everywhere that we wanted to try out, like The Gin Joint, The Rarebit, The Grocery, and McCrady’s. I guess we’ll just have to plan another trip soon to hit those spots!
What are your Charleston favorites?
Photos by restaurants listed and myself.
I love the Ordinary as well did you try any of the vege sides? or the Lobster Roll YUM!. If you like HUSK and the farm to table theme try FIG (Food Is Good) excellent seasonal food and great artisanal drinks.
Another nice place downtown for a casual lunch is Fleet Landing they have excellent fresh fish and my favorite is the Charleston Cobb salad…but if you have the ability to drive the Fat Hen on John’s Island is another excellent choice.
Although you might not travel to Charleston for Thai food, Basil is wonderful and one of the features I like is they have chef seating where you can watch them cook.
