We finally got around to finishing our second guest bedroom last week. It only took us 9 months.
When we started our restoration, that guest bedroom (called the Bear Room) looked like this.
Then, after a lot of work and A LOT of plaster repair, it looked like this.
And then we moved all of our stuff, and this room became the dumping grounds of the house.
Trust me, it got even worse than that.
Over Christmas break and MLK weekend, we worked really hard to get this room back in shape. We officially unpacked our last box on Monday, January 19, 2015!
And now, it looks like this.
There’s still a few things that need to change. For one, the bed is a double and the Trina Turk comforter is a queen. We just threw it on there because we had it, but I think I want a white quilt/coverlet instead. It’s impossible to find non-custom drapes that are long enough for our 9′ tall windows, so I think I’ll end up adding a colorblock panel to the ends of these. And we desperately need a rug. But all in all, this room has come a very long way and I’m happy to finally be out from under the black cloud that was the room full of boxes!
This was a huge project. I recommend talking to professionals if you are considering any kind of home remodels such as this one – especially when the project is as extensive as this one! SHS Roofing says, “When planning a home remodel, speak with the contractor during all phases of the process. Communication is critical in order to keep tabs on exactly what is happening during a remodel.”
A few sources… the paint color is Fresh Cut by Glidden. The bed is a hand-me-down. The dresser is a ReStore find that I refurbished. The nightstand is actually 2 accent tables from Target, on clearance for $6.49 each. The curtains are from TJ Maxx. The lamp was a yard sale find. All of the photos are ones I took on our honeymoon. The monogram canvas was a gift from my cousin Mary. And just about everything else can be found in my shop, including the brass etagere.
Wow! Great improvement! Nice work sissy
A lot different from the last time you saw it! :)
Goodness I love your house! A fireplace in the guest bedroom…what a lovely feature. And oh my, that ceiling height is amazing. What a great transformation in this room! Nice work

Thanks, my friend! That fireplace definitely needs some work, but I know we’ll be happy to have it someday. Thanks for following along! :)
Such a lovely guest room! Love the colors — and oh to have a fireplace! xo
