After much debate, we finally decided on a color for the dining room a few weeks ago. PURPLE!! This is so far from my neutral-loving comfort zone, but I couldn’t be happier with the results!
Charles cut in the top of the room and I rolled everything else. We went with Classic Violet by Valspar above the chair rail and Kitten White by Glidden (the same as the foyer) below the chair rail. Just like the rest of the house, we did all of the trim in a stark glossy white. We felt like the Classic Violet had enough color to make a statement, but enough gray in it to not be overkill.
This dining room has come a long way from when we found it.
So what’s left, you ask? First of all, this room is in serious need of some decorating. We need an extra large buffet to take the place of the smaller sideboard we have now, plus a big mirror or art piece to hang above it. We need at least 2 more dining chairs, and I’d like to bring in something completely different at the heads of the table. Kind of like this, but in colors that work for our room.
The floors need to eventually be refinished, and I plan to get a new rug for this space. But $100 for a 9×12 neutral rug was hard to pass up! It definitely does the job in the interim.
Oh yeah, and those big huge windows need some treatments in a bad way. But they’ll just have to wait for now. Home girl is out of money. But you can see a bunch of my favorite inspirations here!
I think it looks beautiful and makes those tiles in the fireplace really shine!!
I love the color Sarah! It goes so well with the fireplace tiles. Beautiful job.
Oh my! Talk about trash to treasure! You have accomplished soooo much! :)

Thanks Crystelle! :)
So glad you went with the purple and I have always loved the use of more substantial and interesting chairs at the heads of the table.
Sarah, the dining room looks beautiful! That “violet” color is my absolute favorite ! A job well done!! Sandee.
Love that color! It’s not too purple and looks so elegant! Great job! :)
I love the color too! It’s such a beautiful room – the windows and ceiling height are dreamy – and it looks a whole lot better since you guys got your hands on it!!!
Thanks, Cathy! :)
PERFECT color!! Couldn’t agree more with your synopsis…just enough gray, and bold enough, but not too crazy. Love it. Visiting from Fluster Buster’s Creative Muster Party. Cheers!
Thanks so much, Heather! :)
Wow, it’s come such a long way from where you started. I really like the color and think the entire room will be gorgeous once you finish…it’s looking really good right now! Love, love, love those floors.
Thanks, Betsy! :)
I love it! The color just pops and make the room warm and inviting which is exactly what you want in a dining room – I can’t wait to see the other furniture you find for this room.
Great choice on the purple! It’s not easy to pick such a bold color yet ensure its’ sophisticated (and not too bright). I love that it’s a unique color for a dining room.
