Our Summer Bucket List For The Home

Saturday was the first official day of summer.  How did that happen?! Where has this year gone?! It’s been pretty freaking hot here, but after the abysmal winter we had, I won’t complain…yet!

bucket list

Since we bought the house, Charles and I have become the masters of the “staycation” for two reasons: 1. We have no money left for vacations, and 2. We usually end up feeling pretty guilty when we don’t spend our time off work doing all the various projects around the house. So instead of the typical summer bucket list for ourselves, I’ve put together a little summer bucket list for our house.

  1. Paint the front porch
  2. Paint the back porches and stairs
  3. Paint the master bathroom
  4. Paint the master vanity and add hardware and a mirror
  5. Install glass in the master shower (today!)
  6. Install new overhead lights in the master bathroom and closet
  7. Paint the dining room
  8. Rearrange the formal living room furniture
  9. Paint the side door and back door red to match the front door
  10. Switch out the lights in the office bathroom to match the den bathroom
  11. Install blinds (at least in our master bathroom and in the front rooms)
  12. Unpack, unpack, unpack so we can have the bear room back
  13. Hang art, pictures, etc. on the walls (maybe add a little DIY like this or this)
  14. Install cabinets and/or shelves in the laundry room
  15. Set up the newly-stabilized garage to be a work space/studio
  16. Do some landscaping
  17. Repair/replace the back yard fence where necessary (this Thursday!)

So yeah…it’s quite the list. But we’ve got three months, right?!

What’s on your summer bucket list?

  1. Oh my! You have made me tired already this Monday morning. I am currently “house-less” (in a condominium, while looking for the perfect house to up-size to. I know I will have a list like this again , but it will be so worth it! Best wishes with all of your summer projects. Take some time to sit down, put your feet up, sip some lemonade and enjoy the summer too!

  2. Don’t you forget I make beautiful seashell and glass bead mirrors -beautiful to add reflective light in a room!
Also, if you happen to have any of grandma’s doilies, use one to paint thru to make your own artwork (stick to artboard, roll paint of choice carefully over doily, restick to area next to it, roll that area, and move around until whole area is filled. Or for smaller art, stick with reusable spray and spray paint thru the doily and remove doily to leave a lave pattern). Alternately, frame the doilies themselves.

  3. Oh my!! Now you have me thinking about a bunch of things that need to get done. I need to finish painting my mud room and decorate. I want to paint the front door. So much painting and touch up!! Better eat breakfast first!

  4. This is so smart! I would have never thought to make a home bucket list… mine are always filled with snow cones and vacation. This is much more productive! Ha

  5. I don’t have a summer bucket list for my home – it is full of activities with the kids. I have a bucket list for the fall, after they go back to school. On it: paint the bathroom, paint the sunroom, replace the carpet runners, paint the front and back door frames.

    1. Oh man, I can’t imagine doing all that we’re doing with kids! I’m very impressed! :)

  6. My bucket list for the home? 1. Clean and organize all of the wedding stuff that has taken over my life/house. 2. Have the wedding. 3. Sell everything that has to do with the wedding after the wedding. :) I like your list A LOT more. Thanks again for the merry monday link up! – Treana @ http://houseofbennetts.com

  7. I have lots on my bucket list but first is to be homeowners. We’ve been renting since my husband and I got married. The landlord will not allow us to make major changes, including house paint because all the houses in t he complex have the same color. Talk about boring. :)

    1. Been there, Jhanis! Maybe you could try some temporary wallpaper to add a little something special?

  8. Wow! You are really busy. We finished the big summer items…new roof and fire pit, but I still have some small jobs to do. Best of luck to finishing your list! Thanks for sharing at the #partyontheporch. Blessings, D

  9. I really only have one household item on my bucket list this summer and that is to purge and donate lots of extra stuff around the house. Your list is ambitious, but doable. We used to live in a 100 year old Victorian in Ohio and I’m sure we did all that and more in a summers time. Old homes just require lots of elbow grease! Can’t wait to see how much you get done. Thanks for linking up again to the Be. YOU. tiful link party.

    1. Lots of elbow grease is right, Adrienne! Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with your summer purge! :)

  10. Good luck with your list. Thanks for linking up to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party. I’ve pinned your post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board

  11. Thank you for sharing this post at City of Creative Dream’s City of Links on Friday! I appreciate you taking the time to party with me. Hope to see you again this week :)
