In planning the decor of the office, I’ve been bouncing back and forth lately. We painted the office navy and I love love love it! Seriously. If you’re on the fence about doing dark walls….just do it!
But now I can’t decide if we should go with our original plan of a masculine space or try to brighten it up to fit the rest of the house. So I’ve come up with two plans.
The constants: the large antique desk, the navy walls, and the white trim. Neither of us work at home, so the office is more for leisure than actual work…at least for now.
Option 1:
This was our original idea to make the office somewhat of a “man cave.” We’ve discussed having lots of leather, wood, and animal accents. I think an oriental rug would help to keep the room traditional like the rest of the house, but layering a hide would make it a little more contemporary. The added color doesn’t hurt either.
Option 2:
This definitely makes for a brighter space than Option 1. The white, mint, and gold accents would help to lighten up the dark walls. The colors would also tie in well with the rest of the house. But it’s quite feminine, and nothing like what we had imagined.
So what’s your opinion? Dark and masculine, or bright and feminine?
I love a man cave, but I personally love #2. I’m a sucker for Stark’s antelope rug. I also think you could add the Sharon Montrose prints to #2 and they would look great.
I like them both but also think you could put the leather chair in #2 and the lamp and it will look great and you will have mancave/girly all together.
I really love both and think either will look superb. I’m currently drawn to masculine type rooms, so I’m digging #1 a little more.
I really like #1, but the lighter #2 just seems bland. I understand the pale green from the next room, but with the white pieces, it just seems discordant and blah. The rug as well as the pillows in #2 also seem not as fun. Maybe take #1 and pull in the same colors, but maybe make it a bit more nautical and whimsical to get a less ‘manly’ look and make it more unisex. Perhaps a seashell or coral based lamp, and shorebird pictures and pillows, utilizing a red white and blue nautical theme?
Thanks for the input, y’all! :)
Option 2. Love the dark walls. But option 2 joins the dark man side with a lift of light to balance
Don’t make me pick because I love both options and am having the same dilemma for our office. Our office looks almost exactly like yours at the moment – painted dark walls, work lamp in the middle of it, and nothing else! Looking forward to seeing which direction you go!
Thanks for stopping by, Kris! I’ve been following your office reno and love the colors you’ve chosen! :)
I really love both options! You can’t go wrong.
Both nice, but I vote for option #1.
Your navy walls are AMAZING! Wow! The room looks beautiful empty, whatever route you end up going is sure to turn out incredible.
xoxo!
Thanks so much, Jen! I can’t wait to fill it!! :)
