I’m on the hunt for the perfect table for our foyer. Our foyer is quite substantial, and the previous owners even used it as a den. The exact dimensions are 13′ x 21.5′.
Here’s a look at the room, in various stages.
And before you ask, we’re not sure if that rug is staying or going to live in another room. It really just depends on how this room takes shape. But the foyer was the only place clear enough to let it flatten out.
Charles and I both would like to put a large table in the middle of the room, with a few other pieces of occasional furniture sprinkled in here and there. Maybe something like these.

As you can imagine as we near the end of our restoration, our furniture budget is pretty tight. I’ve been scouring Craigslist and Facebook furniture pages for the right table, but no luck. We don’t want just a round table that looks like the typical round dining table at your grandmother’s house. It needs to feel special in some way…just like our house!
So if you come across one, give me a shout! :)
I can go to that consignment store in Greensboro called Reds this weekend and look around for you if you would like? I love going in there so not a problem. If you want to message me phone number I can see you pictures if I see anything I think you might want to ck out. I love the pictures with small seats also…I mean you might have someone just drop by one day that can only stay a minute and what a perfect area to sit and chat for a few! This house is going to be amazing and really loving all the progress…thanks for sharing
Thanks so much, Sharon! Certainly don’t make a trip just for me, but if you go and happen to see something that might work, let me know! (I’ll send you my number.) Looking for something around 4 feet in diameter at least.
If, as time goes by, you don’t find the perfect table you might want to think about getting the most interesting one you find regarding legs, base, etc. and adding a white and gray marble top to it to make it special. Just a thought.
Great idea, Maralyn! Lately I’ve been seeing lots of posts for DIY faux marble tops that would be fun to try out!
I love your inspiration images. I bet something will turn up – it is such a great space.
Thanks Elizabeth! :)
I love a round table in a large entry. Troll CraigsList regularly and you can get lucky.
P.S. That stairway is lovely!
Thanks, Brandyn! I’m definitely a Craigslist addict, so I’m hoping something will turn up. Luckily we don’t feel pressured to find something right away, so we are trying to be patient! :)
What a great space!!
I’m sure you have already thought of this but I’d search craigslist for old dining room tables and cut them down/paint/stain/edit them as you like to make them work for you. You could probably put the base of one table and the top of another together to make it more fabulous.
Good luck!
If something doesn’t turn up, I’m sure we will be getting creative with some solutions. I love your ideas! Thanks for stopping by! :)
You do have a pretty substantial foyer. I don’t think I could bring myself to put any furniture in the middle of it because I really love open space, but I see and understand your vision. I would put a table on the side wall by the staircase and leave the center clear and free flowing.
