Remember this monstrosity that we started with?
Well, it’s getting a facelift. You may remember that we pulled up all the vinyl in the kitchen, butler’s pantry, and laundry room several weeks ago. For the most part, this is what we found:
Unfortunately, we discovered that there must have been a leak in the laundry room, because not only was the wood floor rotten, the subfloor was rotten and the floor joists below were beginning to decay as well. So what do you do when you find out you have a rotten floor? You rip it out!
Thanks to some creative patching, we now have a very sturdy subfloor underneath our laundry room:
Next up: tile! We decided to go with a very basic ceramic tile for 3 reasons…1. It’s the laundry room, and it’s very small, and we don’t plan to have lots of people hanging out in there; 2. It’s cheap; and 3. It hides dirt very well. One special feature that we did decide to add is an emergency drain in the floor. So if, in the future, we have a leak like the previous one, water will be funneled out instead of rotting through our floors. Seemed like a no-brainer to us.
So now we are just waiting for grout!
And of course our shiny new washer and dryer!
Disclaimer: Most of the photos in this post were taken on different days at different times in different light. Thus, the variations. If a professional photographer that can take photos at the best time of day while I’m at work magically appeared, I probably wouldn’t be upset. A girl can dream, right?
I’ll come do your laundry in that laundry room. It looks great!
Very nice!!!!!!
